promotional head start for european films at the efm

45 finished and unfinished fiction films, documentaries and one animation film from throughout Europe will be receiving a promotional boost from EFP (European Film Promotion) at this year’s European Film Market taking place 15-21 February.

EFP’s Film Sales Support (FSS) has endowed 23 world sales companies with financial incentives totaling almost €77,000 to amplify digital marketing strategies with the purpose to improve the visibility of European cinema in overseas markets. The awards are mostly package grants for the promotion of up to five films.

Beta Cinema is one of many companies to receive an FSS grant for sales activities at the EFM including support from German Films for its Berlinale Competition title From Hilde, With Love by renowned German director Andreas Dresen. Their Greek film Arcadia by second-time director Yorgos Zois, screening in Encounters, is, likewise, benefiting from the promotional package.

SciFi drama, Meanwhile on Earth by Jérémy Clapin, brought to Berlin by Charades, documentary, Teaches of Peaches, by Philipp Fussenegger & Judy Landkammer, sold by Magnetfilm as well as Faruk (Asli Özge), represented by Greek world sales, Heretic, are part of the Berlinale’s Panorama section and will be backed by FSS.

FSS beneficiary, Urban Sales is promoting animation Fox & Hare Save the Forest by Mascha Halberstad which will be showing in Generation and Les films du Losange are campaigning for At Averroes & Rosa Parks by Nicolas Philibert in Berlinale Special with the help of FSS.

Films from 14 female filmmakers or co-directors are amongst the 45 supported films, such as Nessim Chikhaoui’s Striking the Palace (Le Pacte), Margien Rogaar’s Jippie no more! (m-appeal world sales), Miia Tervo’s The Missile (Picture Tree International), Lilja Ingolfsdottir’s Lovable (TrustNordisk), Nathalie Najem’s No Way Back (Indie Sales) and Juana Marcías The Girls at the Station (Film Factory Entertainment), to name a few.

Under the recently introduced FSS Inclusion strand for films depicting gender balance, equity and inclusion, campaigns of 6 films will be receiving a promotional push: Turtles by David Lambert, If I Die, It’l Be of Joy by Alexis Taillant, With My Open Lungs by Yana Sad (Outplay Films), Gondola by Veit Helmer (Coccinelle film sales), Crossing by Levan Akin (Totem Films) and Jippie no more! by Margien Rogaar (m-appeal world sales).
