Ten world premieres, five North American and one Canadian premiere are part of EFP’s promotion at the 51th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, 10-20 September 2026), with the EUROPE! Hub returning as a meeting point for the European and international industry.
From a long list of European films screening at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, 16 titles have been put forward by EFP member organisations for EFP’s Toronto promotion. Among them are Palme d’Or winner Fjord by Cristian Mungiu, and Lukas Dhont’s Coward, whose leads Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne shared the Best Actor prize in Cannes. Ten of the films will celebrate their world premieres in Toronto, with a further five making their North American and one its Canadian premiere.
EFP’s presence in Toronto combines targeted promotion with the EUROPE! Hub, bringing together 12 national film promotion institutes and nine world sales companies. Located at stands D-24/D-25 at TIFF: The Market (10-16 September) in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Hub provides a central base for meetings with distributors, buyers and other international industry professionals. Eurimages, as a supporting fund for 16 titles in the festival selection, is also among the organisations represented at the Hub.

The impact of EFP’s Toronto activities extends well beyond the festival itself: several titles promoted in 2025 have since secured international distribution, including Sentimental Value with Neon in the U.S. and Elevation Pictures in Canada, Franz with Cohen Media Group in North America and The Love That Remains with Janus Films in the U.S. Further titles have found distribution in markets including Japan, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates.

World premieres
Ancestors (Ireland, UK/Discovery) – David Turpin’s AIDS-era London drama centres on a young man searching for his vanished flatmate through memory, dream and history. Recommended by Screen Ireland.
Arne Goes to Space (Sweden/Discovery) – Lars Vega brings an alien to northern Sweden and into the lives of two ageing brothers confronting illness and loss. Recommended by Swedish Film Institute.
Brace Your Heart (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Bulgaria, Iceland/Platform) – Amanda Kernell’s Sámi-set drama explores inheritance, love and jealousy through a young reindeer herder caught between tradition and desire. Recommended by Swedish Film Institute / Icelandic Film Center.
Growth of the Soil (Norway, Denmark/Special Presentations) – Hans Petter Moland adapts Knut Hamsun’s novel as an epic love story set against the Norwegian mountains, starring Anders Baasmo and Asta Kamma August. Recommended by Norwegian Film Institute.
Idda (Italy/Platform) – Irene Dionisio follows two women, estranged since childhood, attempt a reunion climb of Mount Etna that ends in dispute and separation. One continues alone to the summit, confronting the fractures between them and her own sense of failure. Recommended by Cinecittà/Italy.
In Alaska (The Netherlands, Canada/Special Presentations) – Vinnie Karetak and Jaap van Heusden send a teenager on the run after an attack on an oil pipeline triggers an FBI manhunt and a journey back to his Inuit roots. Recommended by SEE NL/The Netherlands.
Krux (Germany, Poland/Discovery) – Inspired by true events, Tony Vahl’s drama starring Jella Haase unfolds in a German village during the final days of World War II. Recommended by German Films.
Le faux soir (Belgium, France/Special Presentations) – Michaël R. Roskam revisits the Belgian resistance’s audacious creation of a spoof edition of a Nazi-controlled newspaper. Recommended by Wallonie Bruxelles Images/Belgium.
Mammalia (Greece, The Netherlands/Short Cuts/Strange Cuts) – Elia Kalogianni explores a volatile relationship in which care, control and violence increasingly blur. Recommended by Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center.
What Lies Between Us (Denmark/Discovery) – Amalie Næsby Fick explores the fallout of a sexual-assault allegation involving three teenage boys and the families determined to protect them. Recommended by Danish Film Institute.
North American premieres
Coward (Belgium, The Netherlands, France/Special Presentations) – Lukas Dhont’s First World War drama explores how young soldiers seek moments of intimacy and escape from the brutality of the front. Recommended by Flanders Image/Belgium.
Eklipse (Austria, Italy/Centrepiece) – Set during the summer of the 1999 solar eclipse, Manuel Wetscher’s coming-of-age drama centres on a 12-year-old confronting rejection and his family’s silence. Recommended by Austrian Films.
Julián (Ireland, Luxembourg, Canada, Denmark/Centrepiece) – Louise Bagnall’s animated feature charts a Brooklyn summer of family, Caribbean heritage and self-discovery for a boy who knows he is a mermaid. Recommended by Film Fund Luxembourg.
Rehearsals for a Revolution (Czech Republic, Spain/Centrepiece) – Pegah Ahangarani traces more than four decades of her life in Iran against the country’s political upheavals. Recommended by Czech Film Center.
The Diary of a Chambermaid (France, Romania/Wavelength) – Radu Jude centres on a Romanian housekeeper in Bordeaux caught between the child she cares for and the daughter growing up without her back home. Recommended by Romanian Film Development.
Canadian premiere
Fjord (Romania, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland/Special Presentations) – Cristian Mungiu examines parenting, values and cultural conflict after bruises found on a teenage girl unsettle two neighbouring families in Norway. Recommended by Finnish Film Foundation.
Prior to the festival, EFP hosted an exclusive online event in cooperation with TIFF: The Market for North American distributors, presenting six world premieres: Ancestors, Arne Goes to Space, Idda, In Alaska, Krux, and, What Lies Between Us.
