it’s for real: efp awards film sales support to promotion campaigns of 27 european films at hong kong’s filmart

EFP European Film Promotion (EFP) has earmarked more than €34,000 in Film Sales Support (FSS) for promotional campaigns by 12 world sales companies attending this year’s Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART). The grants, which are to be matched equally by the beneficiaries, support promotion and sales activities for 27 new European films and allow sales agents to sharpen their marketing efforts for Asia.

Support covers a range of measures, from carefully crafted and targeted digital campaigns and market screenings to advertisements in the international trades, high-quality promo reels, subtitling in Mandarin and other Asian languages, and promotional materials designed to give European films greater visibility at the market.

Buyers of European cinema will have a wide range of new titles to discover at FILMART. Highlights include the Berlinale opening film No Good Men by Shahrbanoo Sadat (Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, Afghanistan / Lucky Number), Memory by Vladlena Sandu (France, Netherlands / Loco Films), which celebrates its Asian premiere at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, Broken Voices by Ondřej Provazník (Czech Republic, Slovak Republic / Salaud Morisset), The Wizard of the Kremlin by Olivier Assayas (France / Gaumont), Brace Your Heart by Amanda Kernell (Sweden / TrustNordisk), the animated feature Bamse and the Secrets of the Sea by Christian Ryltenius (Sweden / TrustNordisk), as well as the documentaries Some Like It Fake by Stanislaw Mucha (Germany / Magnetfilm) and Just Our Hearts by Maartje Nevejan (Netherlands / Magnetfilm).

Through its longstanding Film Sales Support programme, EFP is once again giving a decisive boost to the promotion and sales of the latest European films in Hong Kong. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, FILMART remains one of Asia’s key trading and networking platforms in early spring, attracting a strong contingent of buyers from mainland China and across the region. At a time when many Asian buyers are reducing long-haul travel to Europe, the market is more important than ever for European sales companies presenting their newest films ahead of Cannes.

Film Sales Support (FSS) is backed by Creative Europe MEDIA since its launch in 2004. FSS facilitates the export of European films to countries outside of Europe by supporting international promotion campaigns of European world sales companies.

FSS for the respective films was underwritten by Cinecittà, the Czech Film Center, German Films, the Norwegian Film Institute, SEE NL, the Swedish Film Institute and Unifrance.
