EFP European Film Promotion has appointed international media executive and producer Irina Ignatiew-Lemke as its new Managing Director. She will take over the role from Sonja Heinen on 1 August 2026. Heinen will step down after ten years in the position at the end of July 2026.

Ignatiew-Lemke brings more than 25 years of experience in the European and international film and television industry. She has held senior leadership roles at Telepool, Red Arrow International and All3Media Fiction Deutschland, and previously worked in international sales at Lionsgate Films in Los Angeles. Her expertise includes production, international distribution, acquisitions, financing and strategic market positioning, with a strong focus on international collaboration and co-production.

She has been involved in a wide range of internationally recognised projects, including Lilyhammer, Bosch, The 100 Code, Cleverman and Wild Republic. Most recently, she founded the Munich-based boutique company Boxworks Media, focusing on the development and production of internationally oriented scripted content.

“Irina Ignatiew-Lemke combines deep industry knowledge with a truly international perspective,” said Vítor Pinheiro, President of European Film Promotion. “She understands both the creative and business side of today’s global film landscape and has a strong sensibility for the diverse realities, structures and needs of EFP’s member countries. She brings an inclusive approach that recognises the richness and differences within the network and shares EFP’s strong belief in European collaboration. We are confident she will help further strengthen EFP’s role as a key international network supporting European films and talent worldwide. The Board would also like to sincerely thank Sonja Heinen for her outstanding commitment and leadership over the past ten years.”

Commenting on her appointment, Ignatiew-Lemke said: “European cinema has extraordinary creative strength, diversity and international relevance. I’m very grateful for the trust EFP’s Board has placed in me. EFP plays an important role in supporting films and talent internationally, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and our partners worldwide to further strengthen the visibility and impact of European films.”

Sonja Heinen will remain responsible for EFP’s management until the end of July 2026 and work closely with Ignatiew-Lemke during a handover period to ensure a smooth transition. After a successful ten-year tenure, Heinen will step down to focus on the next chapter of her professional journey.
