Buyers from across Asia are invited to explore the latest European titles at the market and the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), 06–15 October 2026, which is showcasing around 90 titles (36% of the programme) with European participation this year across a diverse programme, like the Flash Forward Competition, a section for innovative and original first or second features by emerging non-Asian filmmakers. As many as seven of the selected films show the quality and relevance of European cinema for the Asian market.

Amongst them you can find FöA – Once upon a Future directed by Margherita Ferrari (Italy - Piperplay), and La Bola Negra by Javier Calvo und Javier Ambrossi (Spain, France - Goodfellas), films by promising talents also being presented at this year`s Festival do Rio. They are in good company with A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra by Jacqueline Lentzou (Greece, Germany, France - Lucky Number), Eklipse by Manuel Wetscher (Austria, Italy - FilmsBoutique), Sad Girlz (Mexiko, France, Spain - Alpha Violet), A Man of His Time by Emmanuel Marre (France, Belgium - Charades) and The Meltdown by Manuela Martelli (Chile, United States, Spain, Mexiko - Losange Films).

Lukas Dhont’s Coward (Belgium, France, The Netherlands - Hanway Films), which premiered earlier at the Cannes Film Festival, and director legend Werner Herzog’s newest masterpiece Bucking Fastard (United States, Ireland - Gaumont) being featured at the Icon Section, are two more examples of successful films with European contribution.

film sales support (fss)

Rounding off EFP’s activities to strongly promote European cinema in Busan, seven world sales companies are receiving Film Sales Support (FSS) for the promotion of 12 European films at the ACFM. FSS which comes in the form of grants, totalling € 21.170,11, covers expenses for both digital and physical marketing measures undertaken by the sales agents as part of customized and innovative campaigns to the region. As a crucial market between TIFF, Venice and the AFM, the important autumn Busan market gives world sales companies the chance to put forward their latest and forthcoming films from across Europe to Asian buyers who might not have attended the aforementioned international film festivals.

Additionally, Coccinelle Film Sales (Italy) is receiving € 5.400,00 Film Sales Support (FSS) for Sister Brother Manhole Cover by Milcho Manchevski (North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania, Italy, UK, 2026), selected for the Tokyo International Film Festival 2026. Under the new call for promotional campaigns of recent European films at non-European festivals with an international reach, Coccinelle Film Sales will be able to strengthen the film’s campaign for the Japanese market. Sister Brother Manhole Cover follows two siblings on the margins of post-Communist Macedonia who are forced on the run after a theft goes wrong, challenging their understanding of guilt, survival and human kindness.
