To give them a good promotional head start at one of the most important film festivals in North America at the beginning of 2022, European Film Promotion (EFP) is awarding FSS to 4 European sales companies which have landed their films at the Sundance Film Festival.
German sales outfit Films Boutique is proud to represent Gentle in World Cinema Dramatic Competition, the story of a female bodybuilder who is ready to sacrifice everything for the World Championship. The film, a coproduction between well-known production houses, Hungarian Focusfox Kft (András Muhi & Gábor Ferenczy) and German Komplizen Film (Janine Jackowski, Jonas Dornback & Maren Ade), is directed by rising Hungarian talents, Anna Eszter Nemes and László Csuja. German Films, EFP’s member institute, is injecting an additional financial share towards Film Boutique’s digital campaign.
Danish sales and aggregation outfit LevelK, working with edgy and original films is bringing the sassy coming-of-age film Girl Picture by Finnish director Alli Haapasalo to Sundance’s World Cinema Competition. It takes a good fall to know where you stand is the film’s tagline following 3 young girls entering womanhood. Citizen Jane Productions, a female owned and run independent production company with role model Jane Addams, an American leader in women’s suffrage and world peace has produced the film.
The promotion and sales of two further world premiere titles from Europe in Sundance’s MIDNIGHT section is being spurred by FSS as well. French sales company, Charades will receive financial incentives for marketing activities of Carlota Pereda’s first feature film, the much-awaited thriller Piggy which expands on Pereda’s short film of the same title. Overweight teenager Sara, the daughter of a local butcher, witnesses a crime done to her tormentors. Morena Films (Spain) and Backup Media (France) are coproducers.
Speak No Evil by Christian Tafdrup joins this year’s MIDNIGHT section as well. TrustNordisk is promoting and selling the Danish-Dutch psychological horror movie of a Danish family befriending a Dutch family that takes them down a path they had never wanted.
