EFP has allocated over €53,000 in Film Sales Support (FSS) to 13 world sales companies for the promotion and marketing of 22 outstanding European films to North American and further non-European buyers. For the first time, FSS is not only available for films selected for the Toronto International Film Festival but also for projects presented at the inaugural TIFF: The Market.
One of the films benefiting from FSS is the Danish film What Lies Between Us by Amalie Næsby Fick, which will celebrate its world premiere in Discovery, the festival section showcasing feature films by visionary emerging directors from around the world. International sales of the Zentropa-produced drama is handled by TrustNordisk, which also represents the quirky sci-fi dramedy Arne Goes to Space (Sweden) by Lars Vega, likewise selected for Discovery. Further FSS supported titles in this section include Hanaël El Yousfi‘s The Daughters of Abraham (France / Les Films du Losange), which also receives additional support through FSS Inclusion Top Up Grant, and A Common Story by Anna Foglietta (Italy / True Colours).
French sales company Playtime is receiving FSS support to strengthen the promotion of Nanni Moretti’s It Will Happen Tonight (Italy, France, Spain), which has its international premiere in TIFF’s Special Presentations, a section dedicated to high-profile titles by leading filmmakers. Also backed through FSS is Sine Plambech’s documentary Rescue (Denmark, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Iceland), represented internationally by Autlook Filmsales and celebrating its world premiere in TIFF Docs.
Paolo Strippoli’s The Spiral (Italy, France, Belgium / Le Pacte) will have its international premiere in Midnight Madness while Manuel Wetscher’s feature debut Eklipse (Austria, Italy / Films Boutique) will be presented in Centrepieces. Eklipse also benefits from the FSS Inclusion Top Up Grant, an initiative encouraging sales companies to invest more in the promotion of films that promote gender balance, equity and inclusion.
The Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 10-20, 2026 and, for the first time, is accompanied by TIFF: The Market (September 10-16). Among the films receiving FSS for their campaigns at TIFF: The Market are Jana Hojdová’s documentary Robert Richardson: The White Devil (Czech Republic / B-Rated International), Alina Marazzi’s The Girl with the Leica (Italy, Germany / Fandango) and Jacqueline Lentzou’s A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra (Greece, Germany, France / Lucky Number).

FSS for the respective films was approved by Austrian Films, Cinecittà (Italy), Czech Film Center, Danish Film Institute, Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center (Greece), ICAA (Spain), National Film Institute Hungary, Norwegian Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute, Unifrance and Wallonie Bruxelles Images (Belgium).
FSS is financially backed by Creative Europe MEDIA of the European Union since 2004. FSS offers grants to European world sales companies for promotion and marketing campaigns with the goal to advance the export of films from Europe to countries outside of Europe at international film festivals and markets. Individual grants amount to a maximum of €5,000 or €5,500 (for films depicting diversity & inclusion) per campaign to be matched by the recipients.
