The well-established EUROPE! HUB, joint umbrella of EFP (European Film Promotion) and Unifrance at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM, 5-8 October) in Busan, South Korea, is once again turning into an eventful business spot for international buyers who are looking for what’s new from Europe.
During four intensive days, the highly visible HUB, based at Busan’s BEXCO Exhibition Center, will become a working environment for 28 world sales companies, such as Picture Tree International and Beta Cinema from Germany, Goodfellas and France TV from France, LevelK and TrustNordisk from Denmark, Filmax and Film Factory from Spain as well as New Europe Film Sales from Poland, to mention just a few of the attending sales agents on the ground.

Buyers from throughout Asia are invited to discover a collection of new European films both at the market and the festival, such as, Drowning Dry by Laurynas Bareiša (Lithuania, Latvia / Alpha Violet), which is performing in Flash Forward Competition of the 29th Busan International Film Festival, the Gala Presentation, Visiting Hours by Patricia Mazuy (France) and Misericordia by Alain Guiraudie. Both films are represented by Les Films du Losange.
April by Dea Kulumbegashvili (France, Italy, Georgia / Goodfellas), Julie Keeps Quiet by Leonardo Dijl (Belgium, Sweden / New Europe Film Sales) and Souleymane’s Story by Boris Lojkine (France / Pyramide International) are screening in the World Cinema section, amongst many others.
A few days prior to the official start of the market with the purpose to prepare for the ACFM onsite and to kick-start sales negotiations, EFP and Unifrance offer sales agents the opportunity to introduce selected films with short trailers to invited Asian buyers as part of EFP’s annual online EUROPE! Showcases.
EFP’s financial instrument FSS is helping 11 European world sales companies enrich their digital and physical marketing campaigns for altogether 16 films from across Europe at the ACFM with the aim to boost sales to Asian countries. The beneficiaries are, Alpha Violet, Film Factory Entertainment, Kinology, Latido Films, Les Films du Losange, LevelK, Loco Films, m-appeal, Pluto Film Distribution, Reel Suspects and The Yellow Affair.
The promotion of films that portray diversity and underrepresented groups, Hell In Paradise by Leila Sy (France), Misericordia by Alain Guiraudie (France, Spain, Portugal), Dancing Queen in Hollywood by Aurora Gossé (Norway), Love by Dag Johan Haugerud (Norway), The Jacket by Mathijs Poppe (Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Lebanon) and Breathing Underwater by Eric Lamhène (Luxembourg, Belgium) is endowed with an extra amount of €500 per campaign.

"Global Influences Reflected in Film Storytelling" is the title of a Round Table Discussion as part of Platform Busan, bringing together directors, producers and writers from Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea with fellow artists from Austria, France, Lithuania, Italy and the Czech Republic to share personal experiences and to discuss how their storytelling is influenced by current global or regional changes.
The FSS support was confirmed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Danish Film Institute, Flanders Image, ICAA (Spain), the Lithuanian Film Centre, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute, SEE NL and Unifrance.
